‘Soufflé’

DATE: 2008
MEDIA: Surround sound 8.1, 16mm film

Collaboration between Oswaldo Maciá and Patrick Jolley Combining sound and visual elements to construct a dialogue exploring the physical boundaries of sensorial realities, in ‘Soufflé’ Macia and Jolley created an environment that considers what we allow ourselves to perceive and accept.

The eight-channel soundscape is composed from extensive recordings of abattoirs throughout the world, including Kenya, India, Ireland and Japan. The composition weaves together the mechanical 'voices' of slaughterhouse machinery against a visual twelve-channel film-backdrop of layered, flowing sauces balancing between the edible and the carnal.
