The Opera of Cross-Pollination: for Catherine Petitgas (2019)
Olfactory-acoustic sculpture
Collection Petitgas

Fascinated by issues related to the senses and their limits, Colombian artist Oswaldo Maciá creates intangible sculptures that invade the space of sounds and smells. The immersive olfactory -acoustic installation, The Opera of Cross-Pollination: for Catherine Petitgas, invites spectators to experience a symphonic composition made of bio-acoustic sounds calls of insects pollinators mixed with “notes” of the scent of 'wild orchid'. This sensitive dive into the fauna and flora of the Amazon does not emphasize, however, sight – our primary sense. Instead, the visual elements and, in particular, the colour serve as a framework for the work and allow the visitors to enter into a meditative state. The artist, through perception, seeks to encourage a reflexive pause on the endangerment of animal and plant species caused by humans.
